TODO.md is great for your agent, but hard to see and share
Frostbyte gives you and your team a visual plan with a ranked list of what's next. It's free to start, and your agent keeps it up to date.

The file worked, with a few lines of guidance
We gave the agent the same Pantry plan in TODO.md, with and without instructions in CLAUDE.md. Both read the plan. The instructions changed where the reason was kept.
# Pantry Pantry is a small command line tool that tracks what's in your kitchen and warns you before food expires. The next version, v0.2, makes reminders dependable. ## v0.2 - [x] Store expiry dates so reminders are right across timezones (high) - [ ] Choose how reminders handle items with no expiry date (high) - [ ] Add a `pantry remind` command (high) - [ ] Stop duplicate items on repeated `pantry add` (medium) - [x] Validate dates passed to `pantry add` (medium) - [ ] Show days left in `pantry list` (medium) - [ ] Add a `--json` flag to `pantry list` (low) - [ ] Write the v0.2 section of the README (low) - [ ] Exit with a non-zero code on bad input (low) - [ ] Add tests for the date handling (medium) ## Backlog - [ ] Back up the data file before writing (critical) - [ ] Barcode lookup for new items (low) - [ ] Shopping list from expired items (medium) - [ ] Import items from a CSV (low) - [ ] Sync the data file between machines (low) - [ ] Group items by shelf (low) - [ ] Colour output in `pantry list` (low) - [ ] Package for Homebrew (low)

2I don't have a record of that discussion in this session, so I'll check the repo for it.
What we decided (from commit `a789ff9` and the comments in `src/dates.js`; I can't see the original discussion): an expiry date is a calendar date, not a moment in time. It's stored as a plain `"YYYY-MM-DD"` string with no time or zone attached.
What we decided (from TODO.md):
Expiry stays a plain `YYYY-MM-DD` calendar-day string, with no time and no zone.
Why: The stored value means the same day everywhere, and existing `pantry.json` files need no migration.
What stayed with the task
- TODO.md on its own
- Both runs read the plan and ticked completed work. Neither kept the choice and reason in the file. The next session found an answer in commits and code comments.
- With these lines in CLAUDE.md
- Both kept the choice and reason in TODO.md. The next session read them back from the file.
- Claude Code Tasks
- In our runs on 31 October 2026, the agent didn't read the list from an earlier session. Both task-list settings were enabled. That is what happened in this test.
This project's plan is in TODO.md. When asked what's next, read the open tasks under v0.2 and rank them by priority. Before working on a task, mark it in progress in the file. When you make a non-obvious choice, write the choice and the reason under the task. When you finish, add a short summary under the task and tick it.
The file was already in the repo, so it needed no connection. Our tool is called whats_next and explicitly asks agents to log decisions, so the script and scoring lean our way.
It's a small test: two runs per setup, one model, one project. Try it on your own work.
“Before Frostbyte, if I asked my agent what's next, it made something up. Now it tells me I've got three things left before the release.”
Will Lehmann Founder, MyPacks
“We moved over from Linear. The whole team picked it up in a day, and everyone can see what's next without a per-seat bill.”
Harry Founder, Switchboard
Start with tasks and a release
Keep coding instructions in CLAUDE.md. Put the changing task list here, where you can see the release and your teammate can open it too. What's Next gives each recommendation a reason.
Let users post and vote in public
A file in your repo works for you and your agent. From Indie, the Feedback Portal gives users a place to post and vote. Their requests link to the tasks you choose to build.
-
Export the roadmap as an image
I'd love to drop our roadmap into the monthly investor update without screenshotting it.
-
Vote count doesn't change after I vote
I voted on the dark mode request and the number stayed at 11. Refreshing didn't help.
-
Slack message when a release ships
Our team lives in Slack, so a ping there would beat checking the changelog.
-
Embed the roadmap on our own site
We'd rather show the roadmap inside our docs than send people to another site.
-
Let me comment on a task
I want to leave a note on a task about why I changed it, without opening another tool.
Coming up soon
-
Fix vote counts on the portal
Voting on the portal doesn't always update the count, and the task shows a different total.
Bug fix -
Slack integration
Post to the Slack channel you choose when a release ships, with its changelog post.
Feature
Being built now

Let voters follow a request
Follow a request on the portal without voting, and hear back when it ships.

Add a project Activity page
One page for everything that changed in the project, filterable by person and agent.
Feature -
Add plugin guidance preferences
Let each project choose how much guidance the plugin gives its agent.

Where a file wins
Free without limitsA Markdown file costs nothing and has no project or task limit. Our Free plan has 1 project and 100 open tasks.
In your repoThe plan travels with your code and its git history. Your agent can read it without connecting another tool. If you want more structure in the repo, see our Backlog.md test.
If you work alone, have no users and the file still works, stay with TODO.md. Try the visual plan on Free when it stops.

Try it on one release
Copy the plan and leave your file in place. Connect your agent and use this exact prompt.
Copy with your agent
“Copy my TODO.md into a new Frostbyte project called Pantry. Keep every title exactly as written, make a release for each version and put its tasks in it, carry over done states, priorities and notes, and don't change or delete anything here.” This kept titles, states, priorities, notes and release grouping in both extra TODO.md runs. A bare “move” prompt shortened titles and deleted the file in both earlier runs.
Start fresh
Create a project and add only the tasks for your next release.
