Connect your agent

Let Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or another AI tool read and update your Frostbyte project.

Connecting an agent lets the AI tool you already use see your tasks, releases, areas and signals, and change them while it works. Ask it what's next, have it start a task, or let it mark work done with a summary when it finishes.

When to use it. Connect your own agent when you want AI help inside the tool where you already work, such as your editor or Claude. For a quick question inside Frostbyte itself, the built-in Frostbyte Agent needs no setup.

Credits and your AI plan

When Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor works on your project, the thinking happens in that app, on your plan with it: your Claude or ChatGPT subscription, or your API usage. Frostbyte answers its requests for tasks and releases, and those requests don't use Frostbyte AI credits.

The Frostbyte Agent inside the app is different. Frostbyte runs the AI for it, so each reply spends AI credits from the project owner's monthly pool.

Choose your agent

The quickest way is in Frostbyte: open Settings → Connections → Connect your agent. It walks you through the same steps as below, with your token filled in. To read them first, select the app you use.

Check it's connected

Open Settings → Connections. Each connection is listed with the app's name. It shows as authenticated once your agent has made its first request, so ask it something like "Can you see my Frostbyte projects?" If it lists them, the connection works.

In Claude Code, /mcp also shows plugin:frostbyte:frostbyte as connected. In Codex, codex mcp list shows frostbyte with OAuth.

If nothing arrives, check you pasted the whole token, then restart the agent so it reloads its settings.

Plugin or MCP?

Both connect to the same Frostbyte server, so you need one or the other, not both.

  • The plugin (Claude Code, Claude Desktop's Code tab and Codex) also teaches your agent when to use Frostbyte. It knows which project it's in at the start of a session, starts and finishes tasks as it works, and links your repository to the right project. See Working with your agent for everything it can read and change.
  • MCP (Claude chat, ChatGPT, Cursor and anything else) gives the agent the same tools without the extra guidance, so it uses Frostbyte when you ask. See the MCP reference for manual setup and every tool.

Things to note

  • Every plan can connect. Free included. You only need a verified email. See Plans & limits.
  • A token is only shown once. Copy it before you close the dialog. Lost it? Revoke it in Settings and connect again.
  • You can have up to 20 active connections. Revoke one you no longer use to add another.
  • An agent can only see projects you can. It acts as you, with your access.
  • Codex on a machine without a browser? Use a token instead: run codex mcp add frostbyte --url https://getfrostbyte.dev/mcp --bearer-token-env-var FROSTBYTE_API_TOKEN and set FROSTBYTE_API_TOKEN. It replaces the plugin's sign-in and keeps its guidance. Get the token from Another tool in Connect your agent.
  • Updating the plugin. Claude Code doesn't update it automatically: run claude plugin update frostbyte@frostbyte-plugin. In Codex, run codex plugin marketplace upgrade, then codex plugin add frostbyte@frostbyte-plugin. Start a new session afterwards.
  • Installed before version 0.9? The Claude Code plugin was renamed from Frostbyte to frostbyte. Install frostbyte@frostbyte-plugin and paste your token again.
